The CityLink Story - Our Background

A Friendly, Innovative, Community-Minded Company that Emerged from the Wellington City Council

CityLink was originally formed in late 1995 following a Wellington City Council sponsored initiative to deploy an advanced, low cost communications network to give local business and government enterprises a competitive advantage. The ‘community spirit' has continued, leading to an effective platform for the digital marketplace - for both service providers and users alike. CityLink is staffed by a growing team of dedicated professionals, committed to making a difference.

Some unique and innovative approaches have enabled CityLink's success and growth. For more information read about CityLink's Digital Revolutionaries - a profile of CityLink's development.

NZ's Most Advanced City-Wide Broadband Communication Network

CityLink first established a network within Wellington's CBD and then to the Auckland CBD. The network has recently expanded to the suburbs of Miramar and Petone in the Wellington region, and further expansion plans are in the pipeline.

Fast, Reliable, and Cost-Effective

High-bandwidth, robustness, and low cost have been the keys underlying the success of the CityLink network and which continue to attract a growing range of customers. They appreciate the absence of communications bottlenecks and the undisrupted continuity of service, all at an economic cost.

Open Access

The CityLink broadband network is ‘neutral', this means that we offer open access to service providers and users alike, via industry-standard interfaces and protocols. Customers can choose any service provider they wish or put any of their own services onto our network. Go to our ISP page to find a list of CityLink's service providers.
